With Direct Primary Care, many people in Grand Rapids and West Michigan with pre-existing conditions are able to get the proper care and attention they need at an affordable rate. With typical insurance plans, copays on doctor visits and medications can add up to a real burden. To make matters worse, doctor visits are usually very short. Without the time demanded by insurance paperwork, doctors in the direct primary care model are able to spend 30 to 45 minutes each patient and provide high-quality care at a fraction of the cost.

With her variety of health problems, Dani wasn’t getting the care or attention she needed and visits to her doctor would last mere minutes. Now, through her doctor’s DPC model, she may see her doctor as many times as needed for a flat, affordable monthly fee. Because of DPC’s potential for reducing the health care costs of both patients and doctors with improved quality of care, Michigan lawmakers are considering implementing DPC as a government employee health benefit.
